Who are we ?

The group was started by scientists from the former Den Kongelige Veterinær- og Landbohøjskole (The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University), Scanbur A/S and Novo Nordisk A/S, and has since 1999 joined forces to improve the welfare of animals and humans in laboratory animal facilities. From the 1st of January 2005, the LEO Pharma A/S has joined the group. And finally from 1st of January 2006 the Division of Experimental Medicine at University of Copenhagen and Lundbeck A/S has joined the centre.

The 31th of December 2009 Scanbur A/S decided to leave the centre.

It is our purpose to carry out specific studies on the impact of different housing models on animals and humans, as well as to investigate how different techniques, operative and non-operative, influence welfare and health of the animals. Furthermore, we are always most willing to contribute to the development of new working procedures in the laboratory animal unit; likewise, equipment designed to improve the welfare of animals and humans is a natural part of the activities. To ensure research at the highest level, we carry out literature studies and write review articles to the extent necessary to form a comprehensive view of the relevant research issues. Finally, it is our goal to impart the knowledge made available to a larger group of interested persons, be it professionals or laymen who take an interest in laboratory animals.
